What inspired you to found Necessary Behavior?
I used to work for Project Consent as a staff writer. It was an awesome experience, but they stole my ideas so I left and started toying with the idea of starting something new that tackled a broad spectrum of -isms.
Who was your role model and/or inspiration?
I look at what others are doing around me and draw inspiration from them. I look at people who were able to create spaces where it is deemed inappropriate, and use every resource they had access to in order to fight for what they wanted in the world
What does your future look like? What do you plan to do?
Personally, I want to move to LA and do work there in a year, but that’s just in a year. For the organization, we’re going to do whatever we need to do and go wherever we need to go. We’re taking it one day at a time and collaborating with other to make it bigger and better.
What motivates you?
My mother because she’s always been super supportive of me and has always taught me “If you mess up, then you know what not to do, and if you take the leap, then you’re 10 steps ahead of where you are now.” Also, all the activist who’ve come before me, who have been able to speak out on these issues and allow for a platform where people can do that. We can’t have these movements without acknowledging where they came from.
What were you like in high school?
I’ve always been into sex advocacy and I knew a ton about it. I went to a school that had a strong majority of white students in the student body, so I really had to learn the difference between being “not racist” and “anti-racist”. I’ve always been as activist at heart and I learned a lot through summer internships.
What is the best piece of advice have you received that has helped you be successful?
Ask for what you need, and do whatever you want!
What do you do in your free time?
I work aha! I don’t really have a lot of free time, but when I do, I love to travel and hanging with my friends
What’s your favorite podcast at the moment?
Ghost of a Podcast by Jessica Lanyadoo
How has your life and daily routines in regards to your company changed as a result of COVID-19?
Things haven’t really changed a ton since we have always had people work remote. But, the coolest thing to happen was having 10 times more applicants. There were so many strong applicants so our organization has grown so much. Obviously, sales have dropped, but it’s never been about the money. Despite the distance, we’ve all felt more connected and have been able to have really meaningful conversations about all that’s going on.
If you could go back in time, is there, if at all, anything you’d do differently?
I would start Necessary Behavior sooner, not much sooner but sooner.
If you could know the absolute truth to one question, what would you ask?
I’m comfortable not knowing things. There are so many things I want to know, but I’d rather just be in the dark about them.
If you had a theme song, what would it be?
Change by Lana Del Rey
In your opinion, who do you think is the most impressive person in the world right now, and why?
Everyone who has been in  the front lines, fighting  against the injustices we are seeing right now, especially with the BLM protests, and using their individual platforms for good. And, ofcourse, the health care workers who are risking their lives for us and saving lives.
What advice do you have for fellow or younger students?
Push your boundaries, get uncomfortable, do the work, get educated. Stay on top of things and never, ever let anyone hold you down. Find a great support system, release the dead weight even if it hurts and just do what you need to do.
