FOR CREATING A VOICE FOR THE VOICELESS:
Using Python, a Raspberry Pi 3, a touch screen, a battery pack, and a speaker, rising senior Travis Smith built a text-to-speech application for people with communication disorders. This application is free-to-use, open-sourced, and works without internet access.
Now, Travis is looking to partner with a company to manufacture his product. His hope? To make these devices accessible for people who need them the most. His strategic use of low-cost technology, and the device’s ability to work without internet, can be life-changing to people who otherwise cannot afford to "talk".
