FOR LAUNCHING A FASHION LINE:
Shoshana Swell, an Information Science and Film double major at Cornell University, launched a clothing line at thisismyspacesuit.com to allow anyone to blast off into space.
Last March, when Shoshana discovered that NASA cancelled plans for an all-female spacewalk due to a lack of women’s spacesuits, and she decided to design her own type of spacesuit. This led to the launch of her clothing line called This Is My Spacesuit, featuring t-shirts and sweatshirts bearing her company’s name.
Since Shoshana began her clothing line with a pop-up store in May in Ithaca, New York, she was invited to NASA’s launch of a SpaceX Dragon cargo spacecraft heading to the International Space Station in Cape Canaveral, Florida. At this event, she met the first Brazilian Astronaut, Marcos Pontes, and he now has one of the brand's spacesuit and rocks it!
Last Spring, she created a few more things that focus on building communities and bringing creativity into the world. Shoshana launched Unspecified, a print magazine that breaks down the borders of creativity on campus with her best friends Caley Drooff and Christine Yang. Shoshana also designed for the Cornell Fashion Collective that brought 3,500 people to view the five-piece space collection where she designed the clothing, music, and choreography. Shoshana is currently working as a Product Design Intern at Facebook.
In 2020 the team plans to alternate among different mediums to best break down the borders of creativity on college campuses.
