FOR AN ECO-FRIENDLY SOLUTION:
When looking for rain gear products at Duke University, engineering student Monika Dharia noticed a lack of eco-friendly options. Putting her education to use, Dharia designed a solution to plastic pollution – a well-made yet affordable poncho created from 100% sugar-based plastic material. After months of rigorous research, GreenGear Supply Company was born. GreenGear’s co-founder Russell Heller from Yale University enabled the company to compete in and win Yale’s Sabin Sustainable Venture Prize. Moving forward, Dharia and Heller plan on expanding GreenGear’s product lines to other eco-friendly devices such as phone cases and water bottles.
